Kaliyah: Screams of Anxiety

"Anxiety can often feel like an overwhelming force, like a constant weight on your chest that makes every moment feel difficult to navigate. It’s easy to feel trapped, as if you’re caught in a cycle of fear and uncertainty with no clear escape. But overcoming anxiety, though challenging, is possible with the right mindset and tools. One of the ways I’ve been able to process my own journey with mental health is through creative expression. Recently, I did a photoshoot inspired by Edvard Munch’s iconic The Scream. The painting, with its swirling, anguished figure, felt like a powerful representation of the internal chaos anxiety can create. I used the shoot as a way to externalize and confront those emotions, turning something painful into an art form that allowed me to process and release the tension.

The process of bringing The Scream to life in my photoshoot helped me see that anxiety doesn’t define you—it’s something you can confront and move through. Just as the figure in the painting is overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment, I too have faced overwhelming emotions, but through creativity and self-reflection, I’ve learned how to navigate them. The photoshoot was a symbol of strength, of transforming something dark into light. It showed me that while anxiety may come in waves, we have the power to reshape our experiences, to find healing, and to create something beautiful from even the most challenging moments. It’s not easy, but facing your fears and confronting your struggles, whether through art or other means, can help lead you toward peace and resilience.”
